Over the many years of pens being manufactured, there has been hundreds of companies involved in the production of pens. In the index listing below I have highlight some of the current companies.

Over the past few years I have had the opportunity to visit a number of the leading pen companies in Italy.

Pen companies in North America flourished for a while, the depression saw an end to many and others closed in the years that followed as the mass production of pens changed from fountain pens to ball point. Some companies remain such a A.T. Cross, however, now just about all production is done off-shore. Parker and Sheaffer, both icons, closed their North American production centre.

In Germany companies such at Montblanc, Pelikan, Faber-Castell and Lamy have remained, although production facilities for some are now located in other locations.

Italy saw its pen companies emerge after the First World War. A number of companies remain today that include Aurora (started in 1919), Delta, Tibaldi of today (original company started in 1916 but ended by the conclusion of the War), Montegrappa (starting in 1921), OMAS (starting in 1925) and Visconti.

Japan has companies that include Sailor, Pilot and Platinum.
